Other Sessions

We also offer sessions without the Discovery Bus that can be tailored to your space. 

The majority of our activities can be set up in a classroom or school hall, and can be tailored to fit your learning aims or projects. Please get in touch with us to discuss your needs and the possibility of a bespoke session for your class or group.

Shipwreck research with History Club

We were contacted with a request for a series of sessions with a secondary school history club, so planned bespoke sessions that would fit within their time slot, use space already available at their school, and build upon skills they had already learnt in class. 

The session series began with hands-on exploration of what maritime archaeology is and how it ties in to history. The following week, MAT staff guided the students through shipwreck research, focusing on Forgotten Wrecks of the First World War. Then, students put their new research skills into practice with a self-lead research session, before finally presenting their findings to MAT staff and their peers during the final session. 

The process of research encouraged students to think critically about their sources, and assimilate and evaluate information, while the final presentations developed their speaking skills and confidence. 

Jasmine, Steve and Helen [MAT staff] were incredibly enthusiastic and accommodating. The expertise and support they provided for the students was brilliant and the students learnt a lot about maritime archaeology, the war at sea and how to use online research and archives. The students were also extremely proud to get involved with an important local/national project.
